Tom Needham

Tom was born and grew up in Orono, Maine. He received a B.A. Degree from Bowdoin College in 1957, majoring in government and history. Prior to graduation from Bowdoin, he was awarded a John Edward Noble Foundation grant to attend law school. He graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1960. He is admitted to practice before the Maine Bar, the United States District Court for Maine and the First Circuit Court of Appeals. Early in his career he served as Assistant County Attorney for Penobscot County. This was followed by stints as counsel to the Bangor Urban Renewal Authority and as City Solicitor for the City of Bangor. Tom has served on many boards, including the Bangor YMCA, St Joseph Hospital, City of Bangor Planning Board and as Director of both United Bank and Canal Bank. He was appointed to the Maine Guaranty Authority by former Gov. James B. Longley and served as its Chairman for two years. Elected to the Bangor City Council in 1970, he served a term as Mayor. In 1984, he was chairman of the River City Festival celebrating Bangor's 150th anniversary. Married to former Carol Ann Coney of Bangor in 1963, they reside in Bangor, have three married children and six grandchildren. An avid would-be golfer, Tom still enjoys skiing at Sugarloaf and an occasional spring fishing trip.
