Susan Kominsky Susan was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, but grew up in The Bronx, New York. She received her B.S. in business administration from Boston University School of Management, where she was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. She attended Boston University School of Law where she was an editor of The Law Review and graduated cum laude in 1966. Since that time, she has lived and practiced law in Bangor, Maine. Although Susan has engaged in many facets of civil practice, she has concentrated in the area of family law for a number of years and is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs. She has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1987 in the area of family law. She received the Carolyn Duby Glassman award in 1996 and the annual Family Law Achievement Award in 2002. She is a member of the Penobscot County Bar Association (President 1980-1981), Maine Trial Lawyers Association, Maine State Bar Association and American Bar Association and is a member of the family law committees of the latter two organizations. She has served on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, and acted as its secretary from 1985-1987. She is a Fellow of the Maine Bar Foundation and was a founder and director from 1983-1989. She was a member of the Board of Bar Overseers (1986-1992) And served on its Grievance Commission from 1988 to 1995. She has served on numerous other professional committees, including the Select Committee on Professional Responsibility (1976 to 1978), the Family Law Division Advisory Committee (1997-1998), Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Inc. (Director 1974-1975), the Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Maine Bar Association and the Family Law Advisory Commission. Susan has also been active in community affairs, including serving as a Trustee of the University of Maine (1973-1980), a director of the Bangor YMCA, director of the University of Maine School of Law Foundation, Clerk of the Board of Directors for Kneisel Hall, a chamber music school, Trustee of the Spruce Run Endowment Trust and co-chairing a capital fund drive for Spruce Run, a local domestic abuse organization. Currently, she is a director of the University of Maine Press and a member of the Family Law Advisory Commission. Susan enjoys tennis, skiing, kayaking, listening to music and has been a long time member of the Maine Humanities Council Bangor reading group. She lives in Bangor and has two adult children, a son and a daughter.
