Eugene Coughlin

Gene was born in Lewiston, Maine and grew up in Rumford, Maine. He received a B.A. degree from Colby College in 1967. He graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 1970. Since that time, he has practiced law at Vafiades, Brountas & Kominsky, LLP. He was admitted to practice before Maine Courts and the United States District Court in 1970 and to practice before the United States Court of Appeals First Circuit in 1984. His law practice includes all areas of civil trial work for both Plaintiffs and Defendants, and an established mediation and arbitration practice. His areas of civil practice include personal injury, business litigation, commercial litigation, employment law, insurance defense, real estate litigation and probate litigation. Gene is listed in the Maine Superior Court Alternative Dispute Roster for mediators, arbitrators, and neutral evaluators. He is a member of the Penobscot County Bar Association, Maine State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Maine Trials Lawyers Association, The Association of Trials Lawyers of America, The American Board of Trial Advocates, and the John W. Ballou American Inn of Court. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association (1982-1984). He served as President of the Penobscot County Bar Association in 1993. He served as President of the John W. Ballou American Inn of Court (1996-1997). He served as Chairperson of the ADR Section of the Maine Bar Association (2005-2005). He lives in Bangor with his wife Jennifer. They have three daughters and six grandchildren. When the University of Maine hockey team is not playing, he spends weekends at their ocean side cottage in South Harpswell fly-fishing for striped bass and sea kayaking.
